Interesting facts about airline travel pre-pandemic

7.7 trillion passenger kilometers were flown, worldwide across all commercial airlines, in 2017.

Roughly equal to 307 million round trips between Hong Kong and Toronto.

With a 777 at normal load capacities that’s around 1 million round trip flights!

Total passengers numbered 4.1 billion in 2017, making the mean average trip just under 1 900 km in length.

So, as you might have guessed, short haul flights dominate.

Projected numbers are expected to almost double by 2035.

Also, just the 11 daily flights from Hong Kong to the major eastern cities, Chicago, Toronto, New York, Boston, Washington D.C., make up around 0.4% of global traffic!
